From the beginning of the 20th Century the city of Evansville has been out ripening in southern Indiana. As a result of the gain F.J. The Evansville Centennial Club, led by Grace Werner, and West side mothers began the effort for the soon to be Francis Joseph Reitz High School. The women based their effort for a new olympian school on the statistic that almost o ne half of graduating studentsthat go to the west side Centennial Elementary School did non keep on their education. It was felt that if a closer spunky school was offered then the students would more likely continue their education foregone the 6thgrade. On November 27, 1916 the school board decided to purchase 10 realm of land on woods Hills for the new high school.
