Social and Economic conditions on NHS Funding
Social and Economic conditions on NHS FundingIn the middle ages, access to wellness c atomic number 18 and sanitation facilities was just available to people be considerableing to a sound socio-economic background. Hill, Griffiths and Gillam (2007) state that in earlier time, even ensuring the supply of clean water and sanitation facilities was a tough depute for municipal authorities. It was not until eighteenth century when provision of health operate began to get recognition as governments responsibility. The NHS was founded in 1948 and is the currently the worlds largest health service that is universalally funded. The basic idea behind the establishment of the NHS was to ensure that people from all kinds of socio-economic backgrounds receive health facilities without any discrimination. This makes the service free for any individual who is a resident of the UK. jibe to the official statistics of the NHS, it deals with about 1 million patients every 36 hours. Funds for the NHS come directly from taxation. The NHS budget for 2008-2009 was more than 100 billion, which center a contri merelyion of about 1980 by every individual in the UK.Considering the fact that health and education ar the most important public services on any governments priority list, however the functionality of these services is directly related to the social and economic conditions. Same goes for the NHS, which has faced management crisis during times of economic austerity, some(prenominal) in present and the past. Although the NHS has seen a sharp increase in financial support over the last few decades, however, given the current economic recession, the chances of future funding are quite uncertain. It is feared that either the NHS entrust go done a funding cut or the government will have to resort to tax-raising measures.wellness Care and Social and Economic ConditionsAlthough good health is a need of every individual, however, the access to health care services is greatly dependent on the social and economic conditions of both the individual and the estate he is residing in. An individual can either opt for a private health care service, which is subjected to his willingness and magnate to pay for it, or is dependent on the services provided by the government. A large proportion of the commonwealth goes for the latter option. A poor socio-economic condition of the country means that either a person sacrifices on his health or will forgo any other of his basic needs in pose to pay for medical checkup bills. According to the Social Care Report 2008-2009 issued by the Health Committee of the House of Commons, A care gap may travel by if people avoid using services wither because of affordability issues or if the services do not meet their requirement. The report also claims that the past three geezerhood have seen a significant drop in the number of people using the public sector health services, despite of the fact that the countrys ageing popu lation have increased by 3%. This makes it apparent that either the public cannot afford to pay for the health care services or the government is purpose it difficult to ensure the provision of standardized health facilities on equality basis. At the same time, given the economic crises, the government itself also gets stingy with providing finances overdue to lack of resources. Consequently, the quality of service provided by the NHS is compromised. Fowler (Taylor and Field 1998, p. 158) states that lack of resources means that new hospital building would not be built good medical technology and equipment could not be purchased and the staff would be working under conditions that would demotivate them. This directly questions the value for money provided by the NHS services.George and Miller (1997) state that in 1960s and 1970s politicians started to doubt the economic viability of a universalist welfare state. They argued that achieving economic harvest-festival is the governme nts primary objective that is being sidelined due to increasing public expenditure. Consequently, they demanded a cut in public expenditure, which meant less funding for public sector health services.Powell (George and Miller 1997, p. 8) claimed that public expenditure has overshot economic growth by a substantial margin, thus resulting in disastrous financial effects including internal inflation, external devaluation and foreign indebtedness. Lees (George and Miller 1997, p. 8) argued that medical care should be treated like any other commodity available in the private market. This will not only make the NHS more cost efficient, but will also make it less politicized and will offer more consumer choice.Although while debating on making the public health services free at the point of use, many social scientists and economists agree that it can be easily funded by taxation, they tend to over number other factors, which may directly or indirectly effect the NHS funding. McLeod and Byw aters (2000) argue that the inflationary pressures on the NHS funding of the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries and the continued presence of private health care services are two major constraints on measures for equitable health care. Moreover, the deteriorating condition of hospital buildings and their repair and maintenance costs also add to the financial pressures.Funding domain Health ServicesAlthough the funds for the functionality of the NHS are directly acquired from taxation, however, it should be noted that all the capital works such as building hospitals are funded through Private Finance Initiative (PFI). This means that these capital works are being financed through loans raised by private sector financing institutions. According to Pollock, Shaoul and Vickers (2002) this is a very expensive way of financing the NHS. Using Private Finance Initiative requires the NHS to pay an annual fee including the cost of borrowing. Considering the fact that the NHS i s a free service at the point of use, this method leads to an affordability gap for the NHS trusts. As a result, the NHS is forced to resort to external subsidies, charitable donations, sale of assets and even cuts in bed capacity and hospital staff. This in return makes the NHS questionable as the idea behind its establishment was to ensure access to health facilities to everyone without any mob difference. When a large proportion of a service is being funded by the tax payers, then the service providers are suppose to make sure that they are being cost efficient and provide the value for money. Unfortunately, this has not been the case with the NHS. Davies (2007) states that the NHS was provided with unprecedented funds, however it still overspent by a substantial amount. Moreover, clinical outcomes, postponement periods and the level of satisfaction of patients are all less as compared to that provided by private health care services. According to Davies (2007), the government a rgues that if the NHS manages itself efficiently, the NHS trusts can achieve significantly positive results.ConclusionThe problems in the health sector are similar to any other economic problem. It is facing a price hike due to gaps in demand and supply. The list of people waiting to get medical treatments is mounting up but there is a unequalfall of resources to cater that list. angiotensin converting enzyme suggestion given to deal with the problem is to impose user charges on the services provided by the NHS. Some critics argue that if user charges are imposed it will give two benefits. Firstly, it will generate funds for the NHS to finance the shortfall. Secondly, people will start taking care of their health and will make salutary choices in order to avoid seeking a medical care. The first argument is a socially unfair argument. The current economic conditions are such that people make sacrifices even when choosing in between the basic necessities. Imposing user charges on h ealth means that they will start avoiding seeking medical treatment not because they do not need it, but because they cannot afford it. The second argument requires one to assume that people are aware and improve enough about what right choices they need to make in order to seek minimum medical help. Countries like France and Germany have already tried this approached and it only resulted in undermining the efficiency of public sector health services, rather than helping to achieve the required results. Therefore, imposing user charges for the NHS consumers should not be considered. Instead, the government and the NHS trusts should look for alternative instruments. In order to deal with the problem the government will have to make both short term and long-term strategies. In short term, it should be ensured that the NHS becomes cost efficient and the consumers get value for their money. This can be done by minimizing dependency on the private finance initiative. On long term basis, p reventive measures should be taken and the emphasis should be on primary care. People should be educated such that take care of their health so that they are least prone to diseases.REFRENCESDavies, P 2007, The NHS in the UK 2007/08, London.George, V and Miller, S 1997, Social policy towards 2000 squaring the welfare circle, Routledge, London.Hill, P, Griffith, S and Gillam, S 2007, Public health and primary care partners in population health, Oxford university Press Inc., New York.McLeod, E and Bywaters, P 2000, Social work, health and equality, Routledge, London.Taylor, S and Field D 1998, Sociological perspectives on health, illness and health care, Blackwell Science Ltd., London.Pollock, A, Shaoul, J and Vickers, N 2002, Private finance and value for money in NHS hospitals a policy in search of a rationale, viewed 21 October 2010, Thomson, S, Foubister, T and Mossialos E 2010, Can user charges make health care more efficient?, viewed 21 October 2010, 2004, Health Economics, Biz/ ed, viewed 21 October 2010,

Marine Biology As A Career
maritimeic Biology As A CareerI would like to begin this paper from the career notion definition. The main topic of this look for paper is shipboard soldier biology as a career and as for me it is not empty words, beca engagement I strongly believe that choosing career we pack our future. facial expression into the roots of this question it is necessity to mention that folk wisdom says of that a profession is as riches. In galore(postnominal) cases people who are around you render near your activity on the base of your chosen career, that it why it is so hard for many young people to chose own career and own future. Moreover, if we impart made an effort transfer all interests, desires, fascinations, a very long itemization would turn out, probably. Many of us have a wide banding of interests, and it is very difficult to choose, what from it would scram a future profession, and what a hobby is. Mostly a preference to some type of activity determines interest to its mainten ance. To intromit a correct decision, it is necessary to set about acquainted with maintenance of potential profession, labour duties and terms of labour. If you like maintenance of profession, you pull up stakes be more fortunate in your chosen work, you pass on have an aim to prove the qualification, become an authoritative specialist in the professional area and, notwithstandingtually, earn good money. At the root-class honours degree of professional cycle all persons efforts usually sent on the preparation to the future career and among these efforts we could find development of abilities, values, presentations and other(a) aspects that are necessary for finding of professional identity. At the end of professional cycle person usually c formerlyntrates all forces on determination of degree of success. Thinking about myself I deprivation to mention that I like naval biology and in my opinion this kind of career will be the best way of self-fulfillment for me. I dont wan t to discuss this career without concrete facts in devil dog sphere, so lets consider this part of my paper as introduction to my look into.I on the watch my research not for one day and understood that choice of the right career path is not an easy step. First of all, if you were not determined from the beginning (for example, during study-time in a college), what it will be, your professional way, then, that coming you to accept in this life, a decision about the choice of kind of activity will become one of the most essential decisions in your life. If you thought over this question in enough earnest, then to the moment of final choice you have in a head few ideas which, however, yet coming to specify. Pointing necessary information is possible from the row of sources of k directlyledge and experience. As you understand from the previous words on the nose now I try to find all necessary information about the career of my choice and mayhap exactly this research paper will allo w me to make my last choice in career sphere.Lets discuss ocean biology as the career that Im interested in for my future and first of all it is necessary to define what it means in the wide sense of this word. Marine biology is a science that studies the organisms of seas and oceans. Marine biology is vast discipline, including the big number of directions, therefore a term is understood variously depending on that, who uses it in own practice. It is possible to name a specialist, qualificatory in a museum the standards of naval animals and plants delivered there a naval life scientist physiologist, studying functioning of the nervous system of squid environmentalist, investigating distri thoion of ocean inhabitants et cetera. We know that often as synonyms of devil dog biology are used terms biological oceanography and marine ecology. However, biological oceanography studies organisms, dwellings at sea mainly, i.e. more or slight far from off-shore shoals. Marine ecology, strictly speaking, implies research of mutual relations of marine inhabitants with each other and with surrounding them physical environment, what, however, most marine biologists really occupy. Although ocean waters are not divided by borders, their inhabitants at the distribution run into insuperable barriers the exposure of which behaves to the major problems of marine biology. If to move from a border in the depths of ocean, it is possible to notice, as physical terms of environment change and simultaneously the types of animals and plants change each other. At the same time certain combine of environmental factors results in that one or other organisms often meet together. Using this analogy we should say that marine biology has in itself many components from other professions and exists in tight connection with them, in spite of their differences. For addition to above presented information I want to add that considerable part of works on marine biology is conducted now on th e base of large laboratories, for example in Plymouth (England), in the USA and so on. In many cases we remember and use famous names of laboratories, but, however, a considerable deposit is brought in this science withal by not yet deserving a world fame menial stations, colleges and universities, located in the different countries of the world.According to information presented on website http//life.bio.sunysb.edu we could find easy and understandable answers on questions not only about marine biology, but also about the essence of the marine biologists work. For example next information is rather interesting to reading and designateing about it Marine biology is the celestial orbit of knowledge relating to marine organisms. But what is a marine biologist? To many, it means being a dolphin trainer but to others it means managing a marine wildlife sanctuary. There are many answers to this question and I would say that a marine biologist is someone who works in some way in study ing, observing, protecting, or managing marine organisms, be they microbe, plant or animal. If you study marine fish populations you are a marine biologist. If you manage a marine wildlife husband and are concerned with protection of marine organisms there, then you too are a marine biologist. You know youre a marine biologist if you have a notebook or computer that you record information often about marine organisms. But you may also be a marine biologist if you are collecting sponges, looking for bioactive drugs. You may be counting them, doing DNA sequencing of them, observing them in the laboratory or making theoretical models predicting their abundance once fishing is decreased. So marine biologists do many things, but what they have in common is working with marine organisms. (http//life.bio.sunysb.edu/marinebio/mycareer.html)In my opinion career of marine biologist is a good choice and based on above presented information we see that specialist in marine biology could find m any areas for own talents implementation. Nowadays there are many universities where it is possible to receive quality education and the post-secondary institutions offering a degree or certificate in this field. For example, researching this problem I found next information that colleges and universities offer a range of degrees in marine biology from an associates degree to a doctorate. MarineBio has compiled the following list of US-based and International schools offering degrees in Marine Biology, and an accompanying list of marine laboratory research facilities.Marine Biology Degree Programs in the US.International Marine Biology Degree Programs.Marine Biology Laboratories, Institutes Graduate Programs. (http//marinebio.org/MarineBio/Careers/)I checked above mentioned information and I could say that above stated facts are true and it is possible to receive education in marine biology area in many universities, because there are many quads where students can go for their b racing knowledge, but first requirement is talents in biology area and a great wish to study and become a good specialist. Thinking about salary range and analysing existed situation on the market of marine biologists I could come to the closing curtain that the salary is enough high and it depends not only from the place where you work, but also from the necessity of your project and your level of education, I mean your degree in chosen area. In other words, future salary in marine biology sphere will depend on educational background, from employment sector and also from geographical location.Reading different facts about marine biology and listen to people who realize themselves in this sphere I understood that career of marine biologist is something like job and hobby at the same time. I like Jefferys words, who said that It was her best choice in the life and she likes her profession very much. Reading about this person next facts I understood that I want to have the same to he r career increase up, Sharon Jeffery knew that she wanted to be a marine biologist. This focus stemmed from a growing interest in biology during her secondary education, from family camping trips near the ocean, and spending her days swimming, snorkelling and turning over rocks on the beach to discover marine life. Sharon is now an Aquarist at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre who designs and maintains exhibits of local fishes. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in marine biology. At the Aquarium, Sharon enjoys the diverse duties of her job, from designing displays to scuba diving, and from collecting animals to talking with the media. Being wet and cold is a typical and dreary part of her job, but Sharon exclaims, You get used to it (http//www.vanaqua.org/education/aquafacts/marinebiologist.html)I understand that career of marine biologists is a not easy career and it requires high level of responsibility and self-org anization, also it requires anxiety and prominent talents in chosen are, because you will never become a good specialist without strong scientific mind. According to http//www.ehow.com we see that The college requirements for a marine biologist arent that different than the requirements of any science, but they may be harder to find as not all locations are conducive to learning about the ocean and ocean life. Depending on your career choice, commercial or conservation, you will want to find a degree from associates level to masters level, or possibly even a Ph.D. (http//www.ehow.com/facts_4796744_college-requirements-marine-biologist.html)I have read on one site www.marinecareers.net that One area of specialization, the emerging field of marine biotechnology, offers great opportunity for marine biologists. Marine biotechnology research presents a wide range of possibilities and applications. One focus area is the biomedical field, where scientists develop and test drugs, many of w hich come from marine organisms. An example of an application of biotechnology research can be seen in industry or defense, where researchers have developed non-toxic coatings that prevent the build-up of fouling organisms, such as barnacles and zebra mussels. such(prenominal) coatings are useful for ships and intake pipes used in power plants. (http//www.marinecareers.net/field_marinebiology.php) Basing on this part of the article I want to realize myself in above expound area and it will be interesting for me to work exactly in this field. Thus, based on all above researched information I could come to the conclusion that marine biology as a career is a good choice for me. I understand that my career path in this area will be also full of hardships, but I like this direction of biology so much that Im ready to meet all hardships, to receive a good education and become a good specialist. I agree with the statement that biologists should be able to work not only alone, but also in c ommand and I have all required features of character that will allow me to work with people and coordinate our actions in the right direction. I went through one test in career area and according to it I should choose biology as my career, because it requires to my necessities and my type of mind. For the conclusion I want to say that I dont want to change my opinion about marine biology as a career and also based on my research I want to recommend for all people who are looking for sphere where they can realize themselves to be strict in judgments and seriously think about own future. I think that first of all it is important to define after finding out of the professional interests, whether you ingest by capabilities, jibe to these interests. For example, you can possess certain internals and capabilities which will provide successful work in one professional sphere, but will appear unavailing in other. Think, as far as your knowledge, abilities, capabilities, are wide and variou s. Professionally important descriptions are health, professional qualification, or knowledge. If some your internals are more expressed for get the hang of certain profession, so, you are professionally suitable for this profession. From all professionally meaningful internals you are able to influence on the level of professional qualification for example, to promote it. In turn, professional capabilities and character traits are such individual features which very difficult yield to the change. I think that capabilities most full open up and develop exactly in operations to the studies or work. If you succeeded relatively easily to master the chosen speciality and then with pleasure to execute work, it is possible to say, that you possess necessary level professionally important capabilities for this speciality. In my research I have done all recommendations presented in this last part of my paper and maybe in future I will publish some new inventions in famous professional jo urnals, because I really believe that when person choose right career it is possible to become great in it.

Influences on Achievement of Funding Goals
Influences on Achievement of Funding GoalsDonna R. LoweThe purpose of the following dissertation, A content depth psychology of Kickstarter The influence of framing and rewarding motivations on race success (Sauro) was to examine the implications of message framing in determining the success or failure of Kickstarter campaigns. The take on also explored to what extent conditional cooperation influences the achievement of funding goals. The study applied framing theory on the decision-making process, which has significant prior research but not in regards to crowdfunding. Sauro (2014) uses a definition apply in a previous study by Dr. Inge Sorenson. Crowdfunding is defined as the micro-financing of individual projects, and is catered for online by sites like indiegogo.com, sponsume.com, crowdfunder.co.uk, pledgie.com, and kickstarter.com (Sorenson, 2012). Sauro (2014) also uses the term project-based communities meaning a unique community of early adopters and investors of a new product or service that h sensation and gather funding pledges. unrivalled hundred and twenty Kickstarter campaigns were randomly selected and sampled. The key findings were broken d avouch by research questions. The first research question sought to uncover to what extent did the picking of framing methods affect success or failure of the crowdfunding campaigns. The finding was campaigns that used framing had a significantly higher rate of success as contrasted to campaigns that used no framing. Out of all campaigns that were happy, 83.3% utilized a prescribed framing method, opposed to 40.8% of unsuccessful campaigns that did not (Sauro, 2014, p. 24). The finding of research question both suggests a strong correlation between successful campaigns and conditional cooperation measures. The study identified a relationship between conditional cooperation and donation levels at the leftover of set funding periods across all categorical tiers (low, medium, and high). Supplemental data was also provided. Additional factors that had an impact on the probability of a successful crowdfunding campaign were identified. The findings were factors such as including a self-narrative, stating personal qualifications, and having a lower funding goal had a strong influence on the outcome. Sauro (2014) found of the campaigns that were successful, a self-narrative was endow 82.0% of the time, as opposed to 62.2% when campaigns were unsuccessful (p. 29). Suggestions for further research included the need to use a larger sample size from all project categories and continue investigation of personal narratives influence. There was also a suggestion to include research on whether text-based, video-based, or combination-framing messages could be efficiently used to achieve objectives.Sauro (2014) used prospect theory and message framing as drivers for the crowdfunding donor decision-making process. Prospect theory attempts to explain the decision-making process based on the way the material is presented (Sauro, 2014, p. 8). In involves a decision problem, decision maker, and a decision frame. Rational decision-makers will opt for the prospect that offers the highest expected utility (Tversky Kahneman, 1981, p. 453). Prospect theory expresses outcomes as domineering or negative deviations (gains and losses) with regards to an S-curve. Message framing is an important concept for crowdfunding and the study by Chun-Tuan Chang and Yu-Kang Lee (2010) was used to support Sauros dissertation. Framing is the presentation of one of two different but equivalent value outcomes to decision-makers, where one outcome is presented in positive and the other in negative terms (Chang Lee, 2010, p 197). abidance is encouraged using framing demonstrating gains and losses. Bruno S. Frey and Stephan Meier conducted a field experiment about charitable giving and conditional cooperation in 2004. The experiment supported the theory on conditional cooperation and found that if people know others are making charitable contributions, the likelihood of them making contributions increases but is still linked to previous charitable behaviors (Frey Meier, 2004, p. 1717). community tend to compare themselves fondly to others and are inclined to make charitable donations based on those they identify with. These lends are extremely important and the root word for understanding donor behavior while researching crowdfunding.Crowdfunding is a relatively new concept. It involves communications, fundraising, technology, and a social media platform. Sauros (2014) used prospect theory, framing, and conditional cooperation as factors of influence for successful crowdfunding campaigns. Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky (1979) developed the prospect theory. Kahneman and Tverskys study Prospect Theory An analysis of decision under risk introduces one of the most quoted theories in economic psychology. certain in the 1980s, the theory has had considerable impact on understanding how decisions are derived using gains and losses. The theory of framing was introduced by Erving Goffman (1974). Goffman was considered the most influential American sociologist of the 20th century (Fine Smith, 2000). Goffman wrote several books and fundamentally changed the way we think of social interactions. His work is considered unparalleled and he is extensively cited in behavioral studies. His greatest contribution to social theory is his study of symbolic interaction, which began in 1959. He studied social order, interactions, stigmas, routine transactions, human behavior, etc. He was not a traditional sociologist and his work was influenced by Durkheim, Freud, Mead, Simmel, and Radcliffe-Brown (Yakkaldevi, 2013, p. 74). Albert Bandura is associated with social learning theory. According to Bandura (1977), Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous, if people had to rely solely on the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do. Fortunately, most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling from observing others one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later do this coded information serves as a guide for action. Bandura is well known for his famous Bobo doll experiment where children were demonstrated to learn aggression through observations and interactions (Bandura, Ross, Ross, 1961). His work is considered to be part of the cognitive revolution in psychology.ReferencesBandura, A. (1977). amicable Learning Theory. New York General Learning Press.Bandura, A., Ross, D. Ross, S.A. A Reflection Upon My Writing Essay -- Reflection Essay
As a student, I write for multiple purposes. Purpose is the key for how my thoughts be dictated on this blank white sheet. After writing this in my in-class journal discussing my transition from five-paragraph writing to actual formation of thoughts without a specific format, I realized that this process was a larger undertaking than I originally thought. Through endless amounts of essay writing the personal academic improvements that have taken place this quarter are indescribable in comparison to any other academic feat made in my brief but fulfilling college career. As a writer, I realized coming into college that my writing was not necessarily bad by any means, but instead extremely uninteresting. After go forth the public secondary education system, I though that I had a strong foundation in writing, which I did, but it did not hit me until my set-back week of my writing class that I was a formulaic writer.
